Construction has officially commenced on the new Hangzhou International Sports Centre, designed by IAARC+. The major sports hub will provide public green parks and specialized training facilities for football, athletics, and indoor sports, serving as a new focal point for Hangzhou's growing community.
The design features a lightweight, wave-like canopy inspired by the local tea plantations of Zhejiang province. By elevating the sports arenas, the ground level remains fully open as a public park, integrating walking paths, sports fields, and public plaza spaces directly with the surrounding city fabric.
Aligned with sustainable construction principles, the sports centre targets a 3-Star Green Building rating. It integrates extensive rain harvesting systems, rooftop photovoltaics, and utilizes a lightweight structural steel grid that minimizes carbon footprint during the building phase.
